Château Margaux 1996

Château Margaux 1996 receives a perfect 100 point score from Neal Martin…

When initially tasted by Robert Parker, 1st Growth Château Margaux 1996 wasn’t far off, receiving an impressive 99 points. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“… it is the quintessential Château Margaux, as well as the paradigm for this estate, combining measured power, extraordinary elegance, and admirable complexity. In short, it’s a beauty! The colour is opaque purple. The wine offers extraordinarily pure notes of blackberries, cassis, toast and flowers, gorgeous sweetness, a seamless personality, and full body, with nothing out of place…” – 99 Points Robert Parker.

In July this year Wine Advocate’s journalist Neal Martin re-tasted the vintage and has now upgraded it to the perfect score – 100 points.

Adding to Parker’s praise he describes it as “a wine where everything seems to be in its right place” and goes as far as saying that “it must be a strong contender for wine of the vintage”, which “may well turn out to be the Left Bank pinnacle of the 1990s”.
