Located in the heart of the City, between Cannon Street and Bank, The Tappit Hen Wine Bar and Restaurant is steeped in wine history. Situated in the former London home of the Sandeman Port house, The Tappit Hen takes its name from the traditional 2.1 litre Port bottle and there are references to the building’s rich, wine history throughout.
Today, the ground floor bar is the perfect place to explore the wine list including a by-the-glass fine wine selection using Coravin and an extensive collection of Port and fortified wines. Modern British cooking is served in the restaurant with small plates in the bar and all dishes are prepared using carefully sourced seasonal ingredients. The Tappit Hen can host all manner of events from private dinners, to wine tastings and drinks receptions. Whatever the occasion, our courteous, friendly and knowledgeable team look forward to welcoming you soon.

Our brand new online Click & Collect service is not quite up and running yet. Please bear with us and, in the meantime, you can still order wine and food (sandwiches only) over the phone for collection from one of our wine bars that has recently reopened.

We are looking forward to serving you your favourite food and wine again. You will still find our best-loved classics, but we have removed a number of other dishes so that there are fewer people in the kitchen at any one time and ordering and payment is now via mobile.

The Tappit Hen is a popular choice for private dining and drinks receptions in the City and, as the former UK home of the Sandeman Port house, makes a wonderfully authentic backdrop in which to hold wine tastings.
The main restaurant can host large groups for dinner or canapé receptions while two elegant private dining rooms are perfect for smaller parties and business meetings. The Tappit Hen can also be hired exclusively for parties, weddings and all types of celebration.
Visitors to The Tappit Hen will enjoy modern British cooking, using seasonal, British and wherever possible locally sourced ingredients. In the restaurant, the a la carte menu changes frequently, while the bar food selection is the perfect accompaniment to the diverse wine list.
The wine list at The Tappit Hen features many wines shipped exclusively by Davy’s Wine Merchants; while in a nod to one the building’s famous, former owners, Sandeman, one of the largest selections of Port and fortified wines in the City is also available by the glass, bottle and Coravin.
Housed the former UK cellars of Sandeman Port, The Tappit Hen is a wedding venue like no other, in the City of London. Spread across two floors, we have the flexibility to bring your vision to life, whether you are planning a celebration for 180 people with music and dancing or a more intimate occasion for close friends and family.
Set in historic Leadenhall Market, The Factory House serves up aged steaks and rare breeds, all cooked on Josper grills.
